Offsetting and our projects

Learn why carbon offsets are important, and more about the three kinds of offset projects you can choose to support.

Carbonfund.org supports reforestation projects around the world that reduce CO2 emissions in the atmosphere. Reforestation is a form of carbon sequestration (sequestration is the capture and removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere). Forests capture CO2 and store it in the trees’ mass and in the soil. Reforestation projects play a vital role in absorbing emissions and providing time to transition to a new energy future.

All of Carbonfund.org’s offset obligations are matched against projects that meet or will meet the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Alliance (CCBA); Environmental Resources Trust (ERT); or United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Joint Implementation (JI) standards. Carbonfund.org also supports additional reforestation projects that provide significant sequestration, watershed, wildlife habitat and other benefits.
